About Jonathan Jarry
Born and raised in the forever Narnia winterland that is Montreal (at least, to many Americans), Jonathan Jarry is proud to be of that rare breed of Canadians that do not say "aboat" and "eh", thereby eschewing comparisons to Terrance and Phillip. A graduate of McGill University and Université de Montréal, he spends most of his days in the socially-rewarding field of forensic biology, patiently waiting for the day when he can walk onto a crime scene in high heels quoting Shakespeare.
While his first forays into the world of film music remain cloudy and forever associated with an unsatiable feeling of hunger, his current tastes gravitate around such giants and debutantes as Mychael Danna, John Ottman, Elliot Goldenthal, Danny Elfman, Debbie Wiseman, Dario Marianelli, Hans Zimmer, and Jessica Simpson (OK, maybe not that last one). His interests in classical music grow the closer one gets to the modern era, with particular affection for heroic Romanticism and the experimental avant-garde. Alternative rock and folk take frequent turns on his very expensive and very valuable video iPod, with bands and singers such as Death Cab for Cutie, the Flaming Lips, Eels, Iron & Wine, Nick Drake, Eva Cassidy, the Dandy Warhols, The Who, Queen, Antony and the Johnsons, and Spinal Tap being extremely popular. Among the most amazing music he's ever heard one can mention John Williams' early career (Jaws, Superman, Star Wars), The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Mychael Danna's Water, the new Battlestar Galactica, Gabriel Yared's Troy, Death Cab's Transatlanticism, the Flaming Lips' The Soft Bulletin, "Bad News" from Veronica Guerin, and "Llorando" from Mulholland Drive. He's still waiting to buy an additional two sound systems before purchasing the Flaming Lips' Zaireeka. He's also waiting for somebody to mysteriously leave a large sum of money on his doorstep.
